Connected and autonomous vehicle technologies are becoming more prevalent, and the rate of this innovation continues to rapidly accelerate for the automotive industry. These next generation vehicles will need to be connected and updateable in order to intelligently communicate with and safely navigate the world around it, continuously deliver new features and value over time, and be able to quickly respond to cyber-threats.
Not surprisingly, the automotive and telecommunications worlds are coming together with increasing speed. As such, it is quite a distinction to have our Wind River Edge Sync technology selected by the GSMA as a finalist for the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMO) in the Best Mobile Innovation for Automotive category. Winners will be revealed at Mobile World Congress (MWC) taking place February 25-28 in Barcelona. If you’re familiar with the event, I’m sure you know that the MWC event (produced by the GSMA) is akin to the Super Bowl for the telecommunications industry.
Edge Sync is a software platform for remote Over-The-Air (OTA) updates and Software Lifecycle Management. It allows for rapid, safe and secure updates to software and firmware throughout the vehicle’s entire lifetime from initial development through to end-of-life. Edge Sync enables fast, cost-effective solutions for software related updates, corrections to security vulnerabilities, and feature-related recalls. Edge Sync also provides car makers with a platform for post deployment monetization leveraging insights from vehicle data, and a way to extend a car’s value with the introduction of new features over time.
“The GLOMOs provide a world stage on which to celebrate the most inspirational and innovative developments across our industry, recognizing the companies and individuals leading the way in everything from 5G, to emerging markets, to intelligent connectivity,” said John Hoffman, CEO, GSMA Ltd. “The awards attract a significant level of high-quality entries, so being nominated today is a great achievement. We wish everyone the very best of luck and we look forward to some exciting announcements at MWC19 Barcelona.”
The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide, uniting more than 750 operators with over 350 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem, including device makers, software companies, equipment providers and internet companies, as well as organizations in adjacent industry sectors. To have the GSMA recognize Edge Sync’s innovation is an absolute honor.
See you at MWC; wish us luck!
