POSIX and DSO

Next week I am off to the Open Group Meeting in Lisbon (excellent!) to talk about High Assurance Software and MILS [podcast link]. No doubt POSIX will come up as the OpenGroup "looks after" POSIX.

If you did not see the comment on POSIX posted to my last blog take a look. This is POSIX in a nutshell – it was originally developed as a way to "unify" all of those UNIX
[www.unix.org] Systems out there (BSD, AT&T, Solaris etc..) by
creating a common API for application portability. At the time (if I
recall…) they were looking to compete for the desktop against the
upcoming WIN32 API…No need to ask which strategy worked here…
