Wind River Proud to Support Team Tempest

It’s a thrill to have Wind River selected by BAE to support the prestigious Tempest future combat air system program.

The Tempest program is researching and developing advanced capabilities to provide enhanced sensing, data management, connectivity and autonomy to maintain air dominance in increasingly contested domains. This information advantage requires connected, agile and flexible future combat aircraft which are able to interact with other domains. This will require the use of flexible and upgradeable technologies to stay ahead of emerging threats, whilst delivering a cost-effective solution.

Safety, security and reliability are part of Wind River’s DNA, and this has driven the development of VxWorks 653, part of Wind River Studio, which is an industry standards-based open architecture software platform for mission-critical and safety-critical avionics. Wind River software is in use by more than 360 customers in over 600 safety programs in more than 100 civilian, military, and space systems.

VxWorks 653’s DO-178C COTS (commercial off the shelf) certification evidence packages and our partner AdaCore’s GNAT Pro Assurance enable the development of high integrity systems which need to undergo rigorous assessment by civil and military certification authorities.

VxWorks 653’s pioneering Independent, Build, Link and Load (IBLL) capability also enables customers to develop multiple applications for common avionics computing platforms, and to update and upgrade applications to proving new capabilities to meet evolving requirements. This approach enables modular and incremental certification to minimize the cost of change, reducing program through life costs and increasing affordability (see this white paper for further details).

Thank you, BAE Systems, and we look forward to the success of the Tempest program!

Wind River software and expertise are accelerating digital transformation of mission-critical intelligent systems that will increasingly demand greater compute and AI capabilities while delivering the highest levels of security, safety, and reliability.
